Equipped with a few tricks for keeping fruit, vegetables and other precious produce fresh, and even reviving a few things past their best, you can reduce food waste to a minimum or even eliminate it entirely. Meal preppen bespaart tijd, moeite en gaat verspilling tegen


 Als je maar kleine hoeveelheden eet en niet lang in de keuken wilt staan, kun je daar je voordeel mee doen. Neem gewoon de tijd om grotere hoeveelheden eten te bereiden en bewaar de afzonderlijke porties vervolgens in de koelkast of vriezer. Dit werkt vooral goed met soepen, sauzen en gerechten zoals bijvoorbeeld ratatouille. Vroeger was dit heel gewoon en werd het vooruit koken genoemd, tegenwoordig gebruiken we hier de wat meer trendy term 'meal preppen’ voor. Deze ouderwetse gewoonte biedt talloze voordelen, omdat je producten kunt gebruiken terwijl ze nog vers van de winkel zijn, maar ze vervolgens kunt bewaren tot je ze wilt eten.

 Groente en fruit die worden weggegooid alleen omdat ze er niet mooi uitzien, zorgen voor een aanzienlijk deel van het wereldwijde probleem van voedselverspilling. Vaak worden groenten en fruit met een vreemde vorm er al bij de oogst uit gehaald en halen ze het niet eens tot de winkel, alleen omdat ze volgens ons niet aantrekkelijk uitzien. Te krom, te recht, te veel pukkels, te zacht: er zijn allerlei redenen waarom zo veel perfect eetbare appels, wortels, en dergelijke in de prullenbak belanden. Maar deze minder mooie producten smaken net zo lekker.
